The Hochtaunus begins right on your doorstep: historic places, family-friendly activities, hiking trails, excursion destinations and personal recommendations.
Kransberg lies in the eastern Hintertaunus at around 250 to 320 metres above sea level, nestled in a narrow valley and surrounded by wooded hills. Extensive deciduous forests, green slopes and the peaceful valley setting shape the character of this small village. High above the rooftops, Kransberg Castle rises over the village and, together with the church, defines its distinctive skyline.
Its position between the Taunus and the Wetterau also makes Kransberg historically fascinating. Only a few kilometres away ran the Upper German-Raetian Limes, once the frontier of the Roman Empire towards the non-Roman territories of Germania. Today, numerous paths lead directly from the village into the forests and over the hills of the Taunus.
Kransberg is a former climatic health resort. Its quiet valley location, extensive deciduous forests and natural surroundings still give the village a special sense of peace and recreation today.
Kransberg tells its stories …
The Legend of Kranichsburg
An old local legend tells of a young noblewoman, a young huntsman and a faithful crane. The story combines love, loyalty and a tragic chapter surrounding the old castle – and, according to the legend, explains how Kranichsburg received its name and why the crane still holds a special place in Kransberg’s coat of arms.
